Our Environmental Action in Kenya

The environment protection is very important in Kenya.  Mrs Wangari Maathai, Kenyan Minister of environment, Nobel Prize for Peace and environment militant for 25 years said: "By protecting the environment, we eliminate the conflicts for  natural resources and contribute to the peace of  people".

The environmental action of Planete insolite in Kenya will be double. Indeed, initially planete insolite chose one lodge which is for a long time, and by their own, engaged in environmental or social actions:

The lodge Mwazaro, another lodge you will see in the south, carries out an environmental action by replanting mangroves on littoral.

Planete Insolite is going to do his action in collaboration with the formation Center "Taita Discovery Center.

"Taita Discovery Centre" (TDC) is at the same time an economic project and conservation project in a zone bordering the National park of Tsavo. This area is the cradle of most important bio-diversity in East Africa and of the most important populations of elephants, lions, cheetahs... Participation of  ecotourists forms integral part of conservation program. The aim is to create the largest protected reserve and a corridor for wildlife in East Africa . The program is carried out in collaboration with organizations such as  "Kenya Wildlife Service" and  "African Wildlife Foundation",  individual partners, international volunteers and local communities. Work concentrates on the 4 following objectives :

- Education : To inform at the same time Kenyans and foreign visitors on this unique biodiversity, the endemic species and the natural wonders of the wildlife and create the reflexes of safeguarding.

- Participation : To offer visitors the opportunity to acquire as many knowledge as possible on all the environmental aspects of the Tsavo park.

-  Conservation : To promote expansion and nature conservancy through tested practices of management, like the creation of small local businesses, generators of incomes, into a durable environmental processus.

-  Service at the community : To support the realization and improvement of  local infrastructures such as schools, hospital and other equipment.

Located in a strategic position between East Tsavo and the Western National park of Tsavo, rich of many wild species, the Rukinga ranch, free from fences, offer a major opportunity for ecotourism. The long term objective is to create a durable program of development, self financing thanks to revenue generated by ecotourism.
